Spain’s Traditional Games Demonstrated the Universal Language of Sport

The sixth day of the “A Cultural Case: Sports” project was dedicated to Spain’s traditional sporting culture. As part of the Erasmus+ Mobility of Youth Workers project (2025-1-AT01-KA153-YOU-000299955), coordinated by FI Gesundheits- und Sportverein, participants continued exploring how sport reflects cultural identity and promotes intercultural understanding.

Activities led by the Spanish partner introduced participants to traditional games such as Caliche Murciano and Calva, highlighting their historical roots and cultural significance within Spanish society. Through presentations and discussions, participants learned how these traditional sports have been preserved over generations and how they contribute to strengthening community ties and cultural heritage.

Theoretical learning was complemented by practical sessions, allowing participants from different countries to experience these traditional games firsthand. By engaging in the activities together, youth workers strengthened their teamwork, intercultural communication, and cooperation skills while gaining a deeper appreciation of Spain’s sporting traditions.

The day concluded with an evaluation and reflection session, during which participants reviewed the various traditional sports explored throughout the project. The discussions emphasized the important role of sport as a universal language that connects people across cultures, promotes mutual understanding, and helps preserve the rich cultural heritage of different societies.
