The Critical Health Literacy project officially began on 17 March 2026, bringing together youth workers from across Europe and neighboring regions for a week of learning, collaboration, and intercultural exchange. Implemented under the Erasmus+ programme with the project code 2025-3-AT01-KA153-YOU-000370372, the initiative aims to strengthen the competencies of youth workers in the field of critical health literacy.
The project gathered representatives from six partner organizations: FI Gesundheits- und Sportverein (Austria), Gənclər Azad Sahibkarlıq Fəaliyyətində İctimai Birliyi (Azerbaijan), Debreceni Sport és Kulturális Központ (Hungary), Aktif Gençlik Platformu (Türkiye), Nuvoloq (Georgia), and S.C CYBERWARE CLOUD S.R.L (Romania). Together, participants embarked on a shared learning journey focused on improving their ability to access, evaluate, and communicate reliable health information within their communities.
The first day of the programme focused on building connections among participants and creating a positive learning environment. The day began with an energizing activity called “Motion Mix,” designed to encourage interaction and help participants feel comfortable within the group. Through a series of light fitness-inspired movements, participants engaged in fun and inclusive exercises that promoted physical activity while breaking the initial formality often present at the start of international projects.
The activity created a relaxed atmosphere where participants could interact naturally and begin forming relationships with one another. By incorporating movement and active participation, the session also introduced participants to experiential learning methods that would be used throughout the project. The energizer helped increase energy levels, improve focus, and establish a positive group dynamic from the very beginning.
Later in the day, participants took part in a creative icebreaking session coordinated by the Turkish team. During the activity, each participant received a small paper compass and introduced themselves by sharing their name, organization, and country. Using the compass as a symbolic tool, participants reflected on their personal goals and expectations for the project.
When pointing their compass to the “North,” participants shared a health or well-being goal they were currently pursuing or hoped to achieve in the future. When pointing it to the “East,” they spoke about what they were most interested in learning regarding health literacy during the week. This simple yet meaningful exercise encouraged participants to openly share their motivations, experiences, and aspirations.
The session fostered trust, openness, and mutual understanding among the group members. It also provided valuable insight into the participants’ expectations and learning objectives, helping establish a strong foundation for the days ahead. Through storytelling, reflective practice, and peer learning, participants began exploring the diverse perspectives and experiences that each individual brought to the project.
The first day successfully created an atmosphere of cooperation, engagement, and shared purpose. By combining movement-based activities, personal reflection, and intercultural dialogue, participants were able to connect with one another while preparing for the upcoming workshops and educational sessions focused on critical health literacy.
As the project continues, participants will further explore topics related to health information, misinformation, critical thinking, and effective methods for promoting health literacy among young people. The strong connections established on the first day provide an excellent starting point for a productive and impactful week of learning.
